Eastern Sierra gets another eye doctor

Times Staff Report

After 27 years working as an ophthalmologist in Bishop, Dr. Tom Reid recently announced he will be getting an optometrist in his office to help with patient flow.

Dr. David Todd, who will be seeing patients on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays, has been a practicing optometric physician for more than 25 years.

Reid said he will still be performing surgeries at Northern Inyo Hospital on Wednesdays and seeing postops, pre-ops, referrals from doctors Eric Richman and Stuart Hiroyasu, macular degeneration injections, routine exams and minor procedures (eyelid surgeries, skin cancer removals, pterygium removals and glaucoma LASER treatments, etc.) on Thursdays and some Fridays and Saturdays.

During his 25-plus years of practice, Todd has worked primarily in ophthalmology centers treating, researching and teaching ocular disease and ocular signs of systemic disease.

For approximately eight years he worked with biotech start-up companies in the ophthalmic and vision science space. During this time, Todd developed several ophthalmic devices and earned multiple U.S. and international patents.

During his time in research and development, Todd lectured and led research studies at institutions such as Beth Israel Hospital/harvard Medical School, Wilmer Eye Institute/johns Hopkins University, Doheny Eye Institute/ USC Keck Medical School and Bascom Palmer Eye Institute/ University of Miami Medical School, to name a few.

In recent years, he has been practicing and teaching at federally funded regional health clinics throughout rural California focusing primarily on migrant labor communities.

In practice and in teaching Todd developed a reputation for solving “hard-to-solve” cases.

Of special note is the overwhelming success and patient satisfaction Todd has experienced with his cuttingedge, more aggressive and more effective treatments for dry eye syndrome and ocular surface disease.
