Town Council Race Has Six Candidates as Deadline Nears,

With one week to go, six Town Council candidates vie for three open seats

Times Staff Report

The race for the three open seats on the five-person Mammoth Lakes Town Council is underway and another, new potential candidate has joined the race since last week’s Times press deadline; former Town Council member Cleland Hof pulled filing papers this week, according to the Town of Mammoth Lakes clerk.

Hof joins a crowded field; there are five other potential candidates in various stages of becoming candidates, including Seth Guthrie (Guthrie lost to current Town Council member Lynda Salcido), Mammoth residents Chris Bubser, and Sharon Clark.

They join current Town Council member John Wentworth and Truax, the Executive Director for the Mammoth Lakes Foundation, who have both formally filed their nomination papers and now have enough signatures to be formal candidates, the Town said.

The deadline to file for the race is Aug. 12; with Aug. 17 the final deadline if any incumbent does not chose to run.

The election for the Town Council race is Nov. 8; part of the state and nationwide General Election.

The Councilmembers presently occupying the three seats that will be open are Lynda Salcido, Kirk Stapp, and John Wentworth. The term of office for each seat is four years. Councilmembers are paid $735 per month. Candidates must be registered voters and reside within the Town.

Citizens interested in running should contact the Town Clerk, Jamie Gray, at 760-965-3602.
